SOM partnered with Dizzion to replace traditional GPU workstations with a cloud-based, on-demand desktop solution using Frame. This strategic shift enabled SOM to enhance collaboration, reduce costs, and achieve net-zero energy operations by 2022, setting a new standard in sustainable digital infrastructure for the architecture industry.

In 2019, SOM faced the challenge of migrating from on-premises infrastructure to AWS, driven by the need to modernize and adapt rapidly, especially during the pandemic. The solution was anchored by three key pillars:

  • SOM Fabric: A geo-distributed file system facilitating real-time access to large data stores.
  • SOM Stream: Powered by Frame, it replaced high-end workstations with lightweight Chromebooks, maintaining operations and sustainability.
  • SOM Spin: Integrated with Slack, enhancing end-user awareness and session management.

The transformation allowed SOM to work on-demand from any device, optimizing resources and driving productivity. By leveraging Frame, SOM not only met operational demands but also advanced its commitment to environmental responsibility, achieving net-zero energy operations by 2022.
