Let's dive in!

Industry News & Insights:

  1. Luck, timing and a nice cup of tea

This is an excellent session by Andy Jones, the CISO of Maersk during the NotPetya cyber attack in 2017. In the keynote, he details the incident and its global impact in a very insightful, engaging, and humorous way. Great job!
  2. NVIDIA Changed Generative AI Forever

This supercut video highlights the latest NVIDIA developments from the keynote at SIGGRAPH 2023, one of the biggest conferences for computer graphics and AI research. Topics include NVIDIA's H100 data center GPUs, upgrades to the Grace Hopper Superchips and the GH200 AI supercomputers, adding Generative AI capabilities OpenAI to NVIDIA's Omniverse and other advances in spatial computing. Dealing with a time crunch? Just watch the introduction – great stuff!
  3. Gartner Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service 2023 is available

For the first time, Gartner has published a Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service (DaaS) and both Dizzion and Frame are included in the MQ as is AWS, Citrix, Microsoft, VMware.
When I look at the synergy between Dizzion and Frame this opens new and exciting possibilities for customers and partners. Frame's browser-first approach, multi-cloud support, robust automation, and advanced Frame Remoting Protocol (FRP) coupled with Dizzion's comprehensive management, analytics, and compliance capabilities, uniquely positions the combined company to reshape the DaaS market.
“By 2026, 80% of desktop as a service (DaaS) organizations purchase will be vendor-assembled or vendor-managed solutions, compared with fewer than 20% in 2023”

Dizzion-Frame will do both! It is great timing to spin off Frame from Nutanix and awesome times ahead for Frame customers, partners, and peers!
  4. My AI journey and the links that set the stage. ChatGPT is just the beginning!

An excellent blog post written by Brian Madden. He spent a reasonable amount of time listening to podcasts, reading blogs, attending meetings, training GPT models on his laptop, and thinking about AI. This blog post is a great write-up of what is happening in AI and what it all means (including a lot if interesting links). Also, a jargon-free explanation of how AI large language models work is an additional great read.
  5. A Few Words on Taking Notes by AWS CTO Werner Vogels

Werner Vogels wrote an outstanding personal blog post about ‘how I take notes with pen and paper”, the Cornell method, ML, generative AI and the overall value in taking notes.
Taking Notes

Bonus! AWS Prime Day 2023 – all the numbers

This blog post from AWS has nothing to do with taking notes but it does show the insane metrics for AWS Prime Day. A few quotes:

"... during Prime Day 2023, Amazon used tens of millions of normalized AWS Graviton-based Amazon EC2 instances, 2.7x more than in 2022, to power over 2,600 services”

and

“Amazon CloudFront handled a peak load of over 500 million HTTP requests per minute, for a total of over 1 trillion HTTP requests during Prime Day”

Wowsers!

For the Geeks

  1. Five SysInternal Tools were recently updated, Microsoft has released updates to several of its Sysinternals tools, including ZoomIt, ProcDump, Process Explorer, RDCMan, and VMMap. Some of the updates include:
    • ZoomIt v7.1 adds the ability to capture audio and screen recordings, as well as a number of bug fixes and performance improvements.
    • ProcDump 2.0 for Linux is a new version of the popular tool for creating memory dumps of running processes. It includes a number of new features, such as the ability to create compressed dumps and the ability to specify a custom dump file name.
    • Process Explorer v17.05 includes a number of new features, such as the ability to view the Windows Version and Service Pack of a process, the process's command line arguments, and the process's environment variables.
  2. Analyzing Image Quality in Windows 365 Cloud PC: HTML5 web client vs. Remote Desktop Client
Community friends at GO-EUC did a thorough analysis of Microsoft Windows 365 Cloud PC and the user experience differences using their HTML5 web client and the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client. To summarize:
“There are significant differences in image quality between the HTML5 web client and the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client.”
Curious about the differences? Wondering what the testing methodology is? Give their blog post a read. While there is a real user experience difference between using a Cloud PC with HTML5 access and their native application, I should mention that Frame (with our browser-first approach) offers the same crystal-clear user experience and sharp text using modern browsers and Frame App for Windows, macOS, or Linux – it just works.
  3. Applications – Work Smarter, Not Harder
This session by Ben Ward (Field CTO UK&I) unveils the power of Liquit ‘Innovative application delivery and access for today’s hybrid technology environment’. Liquit is a great application management and software deployment solution, as well as a Dizzion-Frame technology partner. Liquit provides unique ‘Smart Icon’ capabilities which are demonstrated in the video recording linked above.
  4. Stanford University is offering free online courses. No application or fee is required. Here are 5 FREE courses you don't want to miss:
    • Computer Science 101 - CS101 is a self-paced course that teaches the essential ideas of Computer Science for a zero-prior-experience audience.
    • Supervised Machine Learning - You will learn the most effective ML techniques and gain experience in their practical applications with precision.
    • Game Theory - This course will provide the basics: representing games and strategies. You'll learn a variety of examples including classic games and a few applications.
    • Designing Your Career - This online course uses a design thinking approach to help people of any age and academic background develop a constructive and effective approach to designing their vocation.
    • Artificial Intelligence for Robotics - Learn how to program all the major systems of a robotic car from the leader of Google and Stanford's autonomous driving teams.
  5. Running Nutanix on OVHcloud
    Jeroen Tielen
(Nutanix Technology Champion and Citrix guru) wrote a great blog post about the process and lessons learned setting up two Nutanix clusters on OVHcloud. Frame colleagues Stefan and Dominik wrote a great guide on how to use Frame on Nutanix with OVHcloud. OVHcloud Deployment Overview
  6. Nutanix appoints Mark Templeton to its Board of Directors
Speaking of Nutanix, a strong technology partner of Dizzion-Frame, this also is interesting news! Great for Mark to be part of the board of Nutanix, he is an awesome leader and wonderful person.
