Industry News & Insights

  1. The first Gartner MQ for Digital Employee Experience (DEX)

Gartner just announced the publication of the first-ever Magic Quadrant for Digital Employee Experience Management (DEX) Tools. This report offers a strategic analysis of the DEX market, evaluating vendors based on their ability to execute and the completeness of their vision. Whether you're selecting a DEX vendor or refining your strategy, the Magic Quadrant serves as a critical guide to navigating this rapidly evolving space. In tandem with the Magic Quadrant, Gartner also released the Critical Capabilities (CC) for Digital Employee Experience Management (DEX) Tools. This research dives into the functional aspects of DEX tools, assessing their effectiveness in meeting specific capabilities and use cases. Gartner clients can access the Magic Quadrant here or access the complementary document via our great partner ControlUp, a leader in the MQ.

While talking about DEX (Digital Employee Experience) the topic DEM (Digital Experience Monitoring) is super relevant and part of the bigger DEX story as well. Rachel Berry from eG Innovations did a great job in writing this great article about the differences and overlap between DEX and DEM.

  2. How People are Really Using GenAI

Marc Zao-Sanders recently analyzed (perhaps with the help of AI) thousands of discussions on platforms like Reddit and Quora. What he uncovered was a vast array of applications for generative AI, exposing the diverse challenges and opportunities we face daily. He wrote a great article, and identified 100 distinct categories of use, which can be grouped into six primary themes that illustrate the broad impact of GenAI:

    • Technical Assistance & Troubleshooting (23%)

    • Content Creation & Editing (22%)

    • Personal & Professional Support (17%)

    • Learning & Education (15%)

    • Creativity & Recreation (13%)

    • Research, Analysis & Decision Making (10%)

These themes provide a clear snapshot of how generative AI is becoming an integral tool in addressing various needs across different aspects of life.

Personally, I am using GenAI for content creation and editing, personal and professional support, and creativity/recreation. I can do more in the same amount of time, often with better results. For many of us, generative AI is being utilized in a multitude of ways across both personal and professional domains. Haven't used GenAI or “Workspace AI” solutions yet? Give it a try!

On the topic of GenAI and workspace AI, OpenAI CTO reminds us they care more about inventing AGI and becoming trillionaires than your company's safety. also wrote an excellent article, “Brian Madden” This great read focuses on artificial intelligence through the lens of how it could impact the traditional corporate workplace.

Additionally, his article “Ignore that Goldman Sachs report questioning AI's value. It doesn't impact what's happening in your workplace today,” discusses reactions to the Goldman Sachs newsletter, which vary based on perspective:

    • AI Pessimists: "This is more proof that GenAI is just fancy autocomplete which spits out unoriginal recycled garbage stolen from creators. AI is an overhyped bubble."

    • AI Optimists: "Economists look backwards. GenAI is in its infancy, and it's premature to expect a killer app yet. Its development is on course to change the world."

    • Brian: "This report is about the macroeconomic impact of GenAI, which is an academic exercise by an investment bank. It has nothing to do with how your workplace is being impacted by your employees finding and using AI tools on their own today."

The image below illustrates the gap between our current expectations of GenAI and 'CoPilot' technologies and their actual capabilities. Don't lose hope—over time, solutions will advance, and expectations will better align with reality. If you haven't evaluated the usage of workspace AI yet, “Don't think. Just do!”

  3. Dizzion Announces the Appointment of Kevin Goodman to Board of Directors

It is fantastic to see Kevin Goodman join Dizzion. I am really looking forward to working together to share, learn, and grow (yay!).

"I am thrilled to join Dizzion's Board of Directors at such an exciting time in the company's journey,” said Kevin Goodman. “Dizzion's commitment to delivering cutting-edge DaaS solutions aligns perfectly with my passion for driving innovation in end-user computing. I look forward to contributing to the company's continued success and helping to shape its future direction."

Kevin Goodman brings a wealth of experience to Dizzion, having co-founded and served as CEO for two successful venture-backed startups: FSLogix, Inc., which was acquired by Microsoft in 2018; and RTO Software, acquired by VMware in 2010. Most recently, Goodman worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a Director of Product Management in End User Computing. Although he retired from full-time work in 2024, Goodman continues to mentor CEOs, as well as students and faculty at his Alma Mater, the University of Georgia.

  4. Introducing the Revolutionary Frame Streaming Gateway 4!

I love it when a plan comes together! Teamwork makes the dream work and I'm thrilled to announce that the next major release of our Frame Streaming Gateway (SGA) is now Generally Available! SGA 4 continues to exemplify how Dizzion simplifies Desktop as a Service. With this release, our customers can now be offered secure external access to digital workspaces without the hassle of managing SSL certificates or (expensive) load balancers such as F5 and Netscaler. Administrators will also enjoy streamlined deployment and enhanced self-service features, all within the same modern Admin interface. So, secure access to Frame powered desktops and applications via Frame Streaming Gateway v4, no SSL certificates, no load balancers, no configuration files - just simple and cost effective. I LoveIT!

  2. Entra ID Private Access - Performance

In a recent blog post, Marius Sandbu explores the performance of Microsoft Entra ID Private Access, comparing it with VNET Peering and VPN Point-to-Site (P2S). Through testing, he highlights that Entra ID Private Access averages 4-8 MB/s, significantly slower than P2S VPN (55-80 MB/s) and VNET Peering. This performance difference is attributed to Private Access routing traffic through an R-TCP tunnel, offering enhanced security but lower speeds. Marius suggests potential future optimizations, like using MASQUE protocols, to improve performance.

  3. FSLogix - Navigating the Choices

In his latest post, Edwin de Bruin explores the design decisions surrounding FSLogix, particularly focusing on the Office 365 and Profile Containers. He provides a decision tree to help users determine the best configurations for their environments, especially for non-persistent VDI setups. Edwin also highlights the benefits of Cloud Cache, such as high availability and improved performance, by utilizing multiple storage options. This insightful guide is a valuable resource for anyone navigating FSLogix's many options.

Speaking of FSLogix, Jeff Riechers created a setup guide to make Microsoft Teams 2.1 work in a server environment. Read the full post here.

  4. Continuous reinvention: A brief history of block storage at AWS

In a recent blog post, AWS's Marc Olson discusses the evolution of Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), from its origins with shared hard drives to its current status as a highly scalable block storage service. Olson highlights key lessons in performance tuning, managing "noisy neighbors," and the introduction of innovations like solid-state drives (SSDs) and the Nitro architecture. This journey illustrates how incremental improvements and continuous reinvention have enabled EBS to handle 140 trillion daily operations. Read the full article by clicking the link above!
